Testing Process

We use a highly structured process to execute a testing assignment that is well defined and practiced across the organization.

Process

The testing process at Lister has the following elements:

Test planning: This includes but is not limited to preparing the plan & strategy for the assignment. Test strategy differs from assignment to assignment depending upon various factors such as tools, technology, process, people and objectives. The plan would include effort estimate, resource, work breakdown, schedule, review mechanism, project risk factors etc.

Test case design: Test cases are designed based on the input received. Designing of test cases go through a test engineering process. Proven techniques are utilized to ensure full functional coverage. Reviews are conducted with the customer on the test cases.

Test automation: A good approach and framework is essential for any automation to succeed. Test automation is carried out by us with great care to ensure that the customer reaps the benefit of automation. Right from identifying the tool to its full implementation, we play a vital role in test automation.

Test execution: Test execution may be the simplest part of testing but when it comes to understanding the behavior of a system, short time delivery and selection of test cases to be executed, it needs a good understanding on the whole system with short-term and long-term objectives. Lister brings in a clear test execution process. Communication is the key where reporting of defects are concerned. Our testers have good communication & reporting capability.

Project control: It is an important function and is managed by having close review of schedule, effort, resource, risk & scope of a project.

Test methodology

Lister’s 6E methodology is unique. 6E methodology is proven & applied to all the testing assignments at Lister. It has the following elements:

Existence: This includes a physical check with respect to media, documentation, components (physical & logical).

Effective: This covers the functionality & user interface. Further on our testers get into an indepth verification and validation of defect depending upon the assignment.

Every time: Consistency, integrity, availability of a system is checked.

Efficient: We check on performance factors such as response time, throughput and optimization.

Extra: Checks on installation, migration, portability and other additional tasks that are specific to an assignment is carried out at this stage.

Extended: While the scope of testing may be specific to the customer need, our testing process is based on industry standards, benchmarks and best practices.
